Still Life Series and Studio Bay Series

Still Life 19
During his tenure at the University of New Mexico, Ellis worked on the Still Life Series. These works arose from experimentation with photography and are representational but create unusual visual and spacial relationships.

In 1964, Ellis moved to Albuquerque, NM to join the faculty of the University of New Mexico. In the 70's Ellis purchased and old victorian house with a bay window as his studio, the Studio Bay Series. He then explored the spacial/linear illusions of drawing on the white canvas which is evident with his use of the studio floorboards; interplaying images out the window, with interior furniture creating more surreal juxtapositions of imagery.
