Aegean, Post Aegean, Woodcut Collage, and Works on Wood Series

In 2003, Ellis toured the Greek Islands which resulted in a series of paintings in abstract vertical forms, the Aegean Series. These paintings were inspired by the relationship of light and sky to the classical Greek column form.
Ellis continued his Aegean Series with Post Aegean, now abandoning the column relationships and the white background and introducing the umber background to create a more Mondrian, abstract balance of color fields.

Wood Cut Collages on Canvas combine the woodblock print motif seen in the Wood Constructions and become the elements in these larger compositions on canvas both gessoed and raw canvas.
