Sky Views Askew: Landscape Paintings from the 1980s

203 Fine Art is honored to present a landscape series by a pivotal icon of the Taos art scene. The artwork in this exhibition is a unique take on landscape painting, with mediums ranging from oil on canvas and drawings to mono-prints. Robert M. Ellis, an artist and educator, enjoyed experimenting with his own artwork, often painting landscapes from a bird’s eye perspective, reconfiguring his square canvas to create diamond forms, and creating rhomboid-shaped mono-prints of valley views and landmark scenes of northern New Mexico.

Inspiration in Taos

The Curated Creative is pleased to present, Inspiration in Taos, by Robert M. Ellis, in conjunction with the Ernest Thompson Furniture Showroom. This exhibit is the first in a series to spotlight local New Mexico artists. Side by side, artworks are on display among beautifully handcrafted furniture representing the rich culture and traditions that set New Mexico apart. Robert M. Ellis, who originally hailed from the Midwest, moved from California to Albuquerque in the 60s . Shortly after arriving, Ellis became enamored with Northern New Mexico, moving to Taos full time following his retirement from UNM in the 80s. Ellis’s paintings, drawings and etchings, feature a playful loose hand, often featuring vibrant color. Ellis, carefully juxtaposed his playful approach to the landscape by configuring his compositions into geometric shapes. His approach presents dynamic and contemporary impressions relevant to today.
